FATHoM members combine elements of their diverse performance, artistic, professional, physical and geographical backgrounds to create innovative and exciting performance work. Our work aims to be accessible to all.
The result of this diversity is cross-artform performance including, dance, music, theatre, installation, improvisation, science, new audio and visual technology, voice, and film.
Our current performance works are 'type' and the making of a piece with renowned choreographer Adam Benjamin.
'type'
'type' explores laughter and crying, a theme both universal and personal, engaging with the emotions of the audience and performers. There are stories of crying, stories of laughter and stories where the two merge, emerge and conflict…
Soundscapes are then created through typewriter technology, enchanting inanimate objects.
Type is a highly accessible and inclusive performance piece that can be installed and presented in many spaces, sites, theatres and galleries.
'type' workshops and community performance opportunities
FATHoM are committed to their education and community work and always seek integration between that and their performance. We are happy to deliver 'type' workshops based on the themes of laughter and crying, capturing participants' stories and placing them within the type technology. These workshops can lead to performance opportunities for those participants, but are equally valid as stand alone sessions.
Adam Benjamin
FATHoM have been working with the internationally renowned choreographer, Adam Benjamin, throughout February 08, to produce a piece that was premiered on the 8th of March at Dance City.
This piece was developed though structured improvisations, resulting in a highly refined choreographed work.
Adam has worked with Candoco, an inclusive performance company, and his most recent work for Scottish Dance Theatre received critical acclaim:
'SDT celebrated the physical and emotional strengths of integrated work' The Herald
'Angels proved that beautiful movement comes in many forms…the work played to everyone's strengths' The Scotsman
'an extraordinary example of integrated dance' The Times
