The FATHoM Project came into existence in February 2004 after 3 dancers from CandoCo were brought to the North East by Dance City to mentor Caroline Bowditch and work with artists with an interest in inclusive dance.
Following that week, 6 professional artists, including Caroline, decided to come together and create the FATHoM project. The name FATHoM was conceived from the first letter of the first names of the six original members: Faye Roberts, Annabel Newfield, Tracey West, Helen Smith, Caroline Bowditch (the little o), and Mona McCarthy. Since then Helen has left and Steve Brown, a musician, and Wendy Erickson, a dancer, have joined the project.
In September 2004, after successfully receiving funding from ACE, FATHoM completed a week of research and development with Adam Benjamin, founder member of CandoCo.
Since then they have been meeting regularly, laying down strong foundations, nurturing their creative development by linking individual practices and exploring the issues of working collectively.
Since forming, FATHoM have performed a number of times in the North East and facilitated various education and community arts projects.
